D’vash class have had an exciting few weeks at school and we have all been working hard on being kind friends and sharing our play with others.
In Math we have been learning about addition and subtraction, using counters, numicon and pictures to help us solve number sentences and talk about how we worked them out.
In Literacy we have been focusing on Tu Bishvat through labelling parts of a tree and sequencing how to plant a seed. We have also been having a brilliant time in the forest area.
Last week we made spider webs with sticks and twine to create a habitat for a spider and we have been reading lots of insect themed books, then seeing if we can spot the insects!
This week we had such a fun time in the forest after the snow, playing with our friends in Gefen class and having a snowball fight!
The last two weeks we have continued to focus on Ancient Egypt, where we have been learning to use our Phonics to decode words in hieroglyphs.
In Math, we are beginning to work on division and how to share things equally between our friends. This week we have also focused on Tu Bishvat for cross-curricular learning, we have been making and labelling trees, writing sentences and making birthday cards for the trees explaining what we are grateful to them for. On Thursday, we enjoyed a Tu Bishvat enrichment day
where we planted seeds, made fruit kebabs and enjoyed a Zoom seder with Rebbetzin Elisheva and Miss Aidy!
Happy New Year to all of our Gesher community from the D’vash team! It’s lovely to see all of the D’vash children back at school and they all seem to be very happy to be back! We have had a busy two weeks settling back in and starting our Insects topic. The children have all enjoyed reading insect themed stories, looking for insects in the forest, ordering and writing about the life cycle of a butterfly in literacy and making insect patterns in Maths. We have been focusing as a class on our listening skills when an adult or a friend is talking; remembering to look at them, keep our lips together so we don’t make a noise and waiting until they are finished before we talk. We are also working hard to keep our hands clean by washing them often and keeping them away from our nose and mouth!
It has been so lovely to see so many happy faces back at school. Rimon class have settled back in beautifully with the new routines. We have been practising washing our hands and cleaning and drying our areas after every use. It is good practise – maybe we could try at home too! In Maths we have been focusing on multiplication and division, practising our 2,5 and 10 times tables. In Literacy, we have been focusing on descriptions of Ancient Egypt and imagining how we would feel if we were transported back. In Topic we have enjoyed comparing similarities and differences between England and Egypt. Fab work!
Tamar class has been learning about Thomas. Edison in Science and Literacy. We learnt that he was a patient and careful inventor who invented the electric lightbulb on his 100th attempt! This showed us that even when things don’t go our way, we mustn’t give up because something amazing could be just around the corner. We learnt about him because our topic in Science this half term is light. We also found out what the difference is between transparent, translucent and opaque – even though they’re tricky words to spell and say! Next time you see us, ask us what the difference is!
On Wednesday Chitah Class learnt all about what a mitzvah is and how we can all do mitzvot in the school and in our everyday life. We really enjoyed baking chocolate chip cookies for the NHS Staff to show our appreciation for being on
the front line and for being our heroes. Thank you so much NHS!
