TAMAR 02 JULY 2021

2nd July 2021realsmart admin

Tamar Class had another great week, with the highlight definitely being sports days. The class took part in all the staples of a good sports day, including the egg & spoon race and a relay. There was a lot of great effort put in by everyone and some definite excitement for the upcoming Olympics because of it.

Back in the classroom, our Science lesson this week got rather messy with an experiment which aimed to re-create the human digestive system using tights, bread, orange juice and banana. It is not something I recommend you trying at home!

This week also saw the class getting involved the preparations for the move to the new site, by painting personalised tiles which will be displayed in our new school building in September.

TAMAR 18 JUNE 2021

18th June 2021realsmart admin

Tamar enjoyed a really positive visit to the new school site and all the pupils are clearly looking forward to going there in September. Everyone was happy to see the abundance of space both in the school building and
the playground area.
Our topic across the curriculum this term is “Humans” and some very good work has been produced in several lessons. Last week we studied human anatomy learning about the function of numerous internal organs. Part of this topic links with RSE and the class have so far, shown maturity and the ability to talk openly about sensitive matters relating to the changes they are to expect as they grow older. I am very pleased with how all the class have engaged with this in their own way according to their own needs.
In Maths we have been recapping on previous work to consolidate learning around using measures and converting units from metric to imperial. In English we continue to work on comprehension using different kinds of text, fictional and non-fiction, developing our understanding of how different information is conveyed via different mediums. We shall also be looking at human rights and how charities such as UNICEF promote and help people sustain these rights across the globe. We have also welcomed Mr Sam back this week.

TAMAR 28 MAY 2021

28th May 2021realsmart admin

As we approach the end of the term, Tamar have been reflecting on the work completed in class. All pupils have demonstrated an increased understanding of the life cycle processes of living things. Our planting project has been a mixed success with some of our plants thriving whilst others have not survived the terrible recent weather!
Luckily our butterflies fared better and were released into the garden last week. There has been real progress in Maths and all pupils have consolidated their learning about measuring angles, area and translation of shapes. We are continuing with our book “Holes” which explores many different themes including racial prejudice and how we resolve conflict as individuals and as a society. These are also themes we have explored in our circle time sessions with Miss Danielle and the class have discussed how we define friendship and what to expect from our friends.
We have looked at examples of times in school when it has been hard to get along with each other and what action we could take to make better choices. Due to the poor weather this term we have been unable to do P.E outside much. Nevertheless, this presented the opportunity to have some friendly games of indoor table tennis and include our friends in Chitah class. It’s been amazing to see the progress pupils are making through hard work and perseverance.
The class are all learning the valuable lesson that it’s ok to make mistakes as long as we try to learn from them and always try our best.
Have a great half term.

TAMAR 14 MAY 2021

14th May 2021realsmart admin

We are continuing with our topic of “Living things” and every pupil is fully engaged with the subject of life cycles – our butterflies have now formed the chrysalis and we are eagerly monitoring them before the transformation into the final stage!
The classroom is evidence to all the hard work we have completed with lots of great work on display.
We will also be planting our tomatoes outside now they have been nurtured and watered in class.
The class are enjoying this term’s book “Holes” and it has prompted some very interesting conversations around the subject of rules vs laws. This is a topic we have explored further in our PHSE/circle time sessions with Miss. Danielle.
I am particularly pleased with the progress made by the class in Maths and how they have grasped key geometrical concepts such as angles, calculating area and translation of shapes. We will be looking at practical applications for these skills over the next few weeks.
Last week our P.E. session had to be moved inside due to the poor weather. However, this provided us with the opportunity to have an indoor table tennis competition, which was hugely successful and enjoyable for all. Everyone participated very well, and some important lessons were learned about turn taking and how to accept defeat graciously!
Good work Tamar!

TAMAR 30 APRIL 2021

30th April 2021realsmart admin

Four weeks down this term and the flower seedlings are slowly thriving with hopes still that they will bloom very soon!
With Springtime upon us, more insects have been coming out which ties in nicely with our topic of Living Things!
This week we explored different types of endangered animals and how we can use conservation practices to help them.
In Maths we have continued our progress into different types of shapes such as regular and irregular Polygons, exploring the angles and how to identify each of the different types of angles.
We are all very much looking forward to extending our knowledge within Jewish Studies in the lead up to the festival of Shavuot in three weeks time!

TAMAR16 APRIL 2021

16th April 2021realsmart admin

Welcome to the Summer Term!
The flower seeds planted on the first day back are already starting to sprout in the hope that once they bloom, they will attract a variety of insects. In addition to this we are eagerly awaiting the safe delivery of caterpillars to put in the butterfly garden.
We are reading “Holes” by Louis Sacher and everyone is enjoying the story which explores a number of themes related to other subjects including PHSE, History and Geography. Some pupils have already taken it upon themselves to watch the movie based on the novel, and are interested to see how the differences between the two forms of media.
The Class are also working well in Maths as we explore Geometry and measuring angles.
Good work Tamar!

TAMAR 12 MARCH 2021

12th March 2021realsmart admin

The pupils have been very welcoming to their new teacher, and they are already getting used to the changes in class which is a credit to their maturity and resilience.
As the Spring Term draws to a close, we have all been very busy in Tamar class not least with the new ducklings that have recently hatched. Every pupil in class has shown genuine curiosity and care in handling them.
Over the past few weeks our Literacy project has been the Abe and Alba book as well as some specific work on making predictions on how a story will end. I have really enjoyed seeing the class use their imagination whilst developing vocabulary to create some wonderful pieces of fiction.
We are currently studying forces in Science and we produced our own parachutes to test Galileo’s theories about Gravity. They are really enjoying the practical aspects of science and testing different theories through experimentation and observation.
Next term will be our final one in the current site and we are beginning to think about the transition to the new school…. everyone in the class has expressed excitement at this next chapter!

TAMAR 26 FEBRUARY 2021

26th February 2021realsmart admin

This week in Tamar we have been celebrating Purim and getting stuck into our new topic ‘Beyond London.’ On Tuesday, we had a special Purim enrichment day, where we participated in a ‘Whodunit’ debate, arguing who the greatest Jewish leader in the Purim story was. We also made hamantaschen and mischloach manot for our peers and completed an escape room style activity, where we had to crack the passcodes by answering questions about the megillah. Tamar class loved it and showcased all their amazing knowledge.

Alongside this we have been continuing to work on measurement and fractions in Math and introduced our ‘Forces’ topic in Science, complete with an experiment on gravity.

In Literacy, we have begun following the Adventures of Abe and Alba, two tiny people who love stories and have escaped from the book. To get them back, we must write them their very own adventure story. Watch this space! We really enjoyed our Purim celebrations.

Chag Sameach!

TAMAR 12 February 2021

12th February 2021realsmart admin

Tamar have been busy busy this week! We have learning all about the Great Fire of London, in line with our London and Beyond topic. We have been sequencing the key events and reading archived newspapers on the event. Next we identified the key features of a news report and discussed their purpose. This prepared us to write and plan our own newspaper reports! Fantastic work.
In Math, we have completed our statistics module and have begun fractions and equivalent measurements, including converting ‘m’ into ‘cm’.
In Topic, we made Spitfires out of wooden kits and learnt and made our own biomes in Geography. Science saw us make our own circuits using fruit and vegetables!
Tamar class have worked their socks off to end the half term – great job all!

TAMAR 29 JANUARY 2021

29th January 2021realsmart admin

It’s been a busy two weeks in Tamar class. We have been learning all about bar charts and line graphs in Math, the Blitz and World War Two in History and we’ve even built our own circuits in Science.
We loved coming to school on Monday morning and seeing all the snow – it was so exciting! Some of us had a chance to help Mr. Baron with our Work Experience as caretakers and we saw what hard work it is to look after the school, as he got us to shovel some snow and clear the playground and forest, but we loved it!
We have been focusing on building positive relationships with our friends during these tricky times and what we can do when things are tough, and we are all feeling a little anxious and overwhelmed.
