GEFEN 02 JULY 2021

2nd July 2021realsmart admin

We’ve had a very busy two weeks in Gefen class.

We enjoyed our amazing mini Sports Day, where the children competed together as a team in four activities: egg & spoon race, bean-bag toss, hurdles and long-jump. Everyone had such a fun morning and were great sportsmen and women!

We also enjoyed a fantastic drumming experience from an amazing volunteer who performed a piece of music on his drums, and all the children got to have a turn on the drum set. In Literacy we have continued exploring our topic ‘Transport’ and have been looking at different transport books. The children have started ‘Talk for Writing’ where the children have began creating their own story based on a character from a storybook.

In Maths we have finished our units of fractions and quarters. The children have looked at halves and quarters of shapes and amounts.

We’ve had a wonderful two weeks in Gefen class by making the most of the sunshine and making sure we have been spending plenty of time outside. We have been practising for our sports day during our PE sessions on
Friday and are now professional long jumpers.
In Literacy we have been looking at our topic ‘Transport’ and have been creating fact files about buses and looking at different types of transport.
In Maths we have been exploring fractions and how we can find halves in shapes and numbers. We’re very excited to be visiting our new school site on Friday! I’ll be sending lots of pictures your way so you can feel a part of our first trip there.

GEFEN 28 MAY 2021

These past two weeks, we have been wrapping up our farm topic, looking at what jobs farmers do throughout the day. We have explored farming themed non-fiction texts.
We never realised how many jobs they do, so we decided to write thank you letters to local farmers. We identified the features of a written letter and drafted them ready to post! As well as this, we have recapped rhyming words and practised ‘Old Macdonald’. We have been looking at addition and subtraction using new methods, line number lines, and column methods. We have been practising these methods through real-life problems, which has been very fun! We have made some wonderful puppets that we took home of our favourite farmyard animal, the horse.
Well done friends! Have a wonderful half-term.

These past two weeks we have been looking at our new story ‘Farmer Duck’. We have practiced using speech bubbles and creating speech that the characters might say and sequencing the story. We were able to identify rhyming words and all of the animals on the farm, it has been so much fun!
In Maths we have just finished our topic of money and we have started looking at addition and subtraction. We have been exploring the column method and problem solving which we’re all really getting the hang of now. We have also been recapping our number knowledge and practicing adding numbers below ten.
This week we are looking at Shavuot and planting our very own seeds in Literacy. We have had a very special day with Miss Aidy, where we have made our own cheesecakes and had a very special messy play in the afternoon!

What a wonderful start back to the term we have had!
We have started exploring our new topic of farm animals. We have explored fun songs and have had some fantastic art lessons where wedecorated our favourite farm animals for our new classroom display. We have been looking at animals and the differences between younger animals and older animals, and what the correct names for them are.
In Maths we have started looking at money and different coins! Some of us have been exploring adding money together whilst others have been identifying lots of different coins. We have also started looking at problem solving with money by creating a shop and adding and subtracting different amounts.
In Literacy we have been learning how to find facts and how to research safely on the iPad. We have collected facts about our favourite farmyard animals and have made sure we use safe websites.
Finally, we have had some wonderful time in the forest on Friday afternoon; we explored in the sunshine and had fun looking at all of the wonderful flowers that grew over our two weeks off.
What a super start back to the term!

GEFEN 12 MARCH 2021

We welcomed our new Ducklings into Gesher. All of the Gefen children seemed to love having the ducks at school! They were excited to watch them hatch, swim and grow nice and fluffy!
In Literacy, we have been learning and reading of Abe and Alba’s Adventures, two tiny but very cheeky characters that have stolen the words from our books.
This interactive way of learning has really engaged the children, who have enjoyed following this adventure whilst developing key literacy skills.

GEFEN 26 FEBRUARY 2021

Welcome back to our wonderful Gefen children!

We started our term by celebrating Purim! We had a fun, creative day on Tuesday where we created masks to match our costumes for the Purim Parade, made biscuits for our family and dressed up so we could role-play the story of Purim! We watched a very funny Purim play, directed and starring the adults in the school!

We started our new topic this week, ‘All around the world’, and we look forward to focusing on Israel and the UK in the upcoming weeks. Finally, we have been working on Math measurements using grams, kilograms and terminology like ‘heavier and lighter’.

Thank you for such a wonderful start back to the term Gefen Class!

Happy Purim and Shabbat Shalom

These past two weeks have been fantastic fun in Gefen class. We made delicious Challah as a class which was designed to represent a tree for Tu B’Shevat.
In Literacy we have been focusing on the book ‘Superworm’ and different insect songs to perfect our rhyming knowledge before creating our own poems.
In Math we looked at statistics and bar charts as well as improving our addition skills. The children seemed thrilled to spend time out in the snow this week!
Have a happy holiday, and we look forward to seeing the children next term.
