RIMON 14 MAY 2021

14th May 2021realsmart admin

Over the last two weeks, Rimon have been busy classifying and exploring. We have all been completing Bug Books exploring and describing the features and scientific names of key minibeasts.
In Maths, we have been working on directional language to describe movements and turns. We have been instructing Beebots and the robot on A.L.E.X app to turn right, left, clockwise, anticlockwise, forwards and backwards. It’s been tricky but we have got our heads around it!
We have made some wonderful Minibeast mobiles in Art and explored the microhabitats of insects in our local area. We are definitely mad about Minibeasts!
We are also busy preparing for Shavuot and loved our enrichment day on Wednesday, where we baked, made beautiful flower crafts to decorate our homes and recalled the Story of Ruth.
In Literacy, we explored the story ‘The Littlest Mountain,’ and discussed the significance of Mount Sinai.

Four weeks down this term and the flower seedlings are slowly thriving with hopes still that they will bloom very soon!
With Springtime upon us, more insects have been coming out which ties in nicely with our topic of Living Things!
This week we explored different types of endangered animals and how we can use conservation practices to help them.
In Maths we have continued our progress into different types of shapes such as regular and irregular Polygons, exploring the angles and how to identify each of the different types of angles.
We are all very much looking forward to extending our knowledge within Jewish Studies in the lead up to the festival of Shavuot in three weeks time!

CHITAH 30 APRIL 2021

30th April 2021realsmart admin

It has been a busy and exciting week!
In Maths, we have been learning all about the different rules and tricks when it comes to addition and subtraction. Some children are working
on single digits numbers whilst others are focusing on two-digit numbers.
Consolidation and repetition continue to be of high importance for our children in developing their academic skill sets. It has been a pleasure to see all their determination and hard work!
We have been doing cross-curricula learning in Literacy and Topic. The children have looked at David Attenborough’s Adventures, discovering
and learning all about animals on planet earth. We have been looking at the world maps and identifying the seven continents in which Attenborough travelled to. The children expressed that they cannot wait to be able to travel again (post-Covid) and where they would like to go!
Everyone is busy working on their adventure story which has been really creative and so exciting!!
Last week we learnt all about ‘Knights and Castles’. We focused on constructive play which was explored through a historical and fairy-tale context. The children made castles, shields and swords from cardboard boxes.
Well done Chitah class for all participating and being such fantastic knights!

This week in Rimon we have been mad about Minibeasts!
We have observed them in the forest, sorted them by their characteristics and written Fact Files.
We have been reading lots of bug-themed books, preparing to write our very own bug book next week.
In Maths, we have been looking at measurement, practicing using rulers and metre sticks to measure small and larger lengths.
We have been consolidating this skills by comparing, ordering and answering addition and subtraction questions.
We are very excited to end our week with a Lag B’Omer activity!

In Maths we have finished off our topic of Money and have looked at different coins and have re-capped our numbers to 20.
We have also had lots of fun exploring farm animals and have been investigating animals and their young!
We have had some very special birthday celebrations, we all enjoyed taking part in a Football Party and then had some lovely time in the forest.

DVASH 30 APRIL 2021

30th April 2021realsmart admin

D’vash have had a great couple of weeks, with lots of fun activities going on.
We have been working hard in lessons, with all the children trying their best to join in with their friends and take turns when speaking.
We have also been practicing congratulating each other when we get a Middah slip. Last week we all tried our best to be independent for our Middah.
In Maths we have been learning all about money! Everyone is brilliant at recognising the coins and we have also used coins to solve addition and subtraction sums.
In Literacy we have been reading Mrs Wishy-Washy’s Farm, which has become a favourite class story. The children have been using a story map to re-tell the story for their friends and we had a go at re-writing the Story to make our own D’vash Wishy-Washy story.

Welcome to the Summer Term!
The flower seeds planted on the first day back are already starting to sprout in the hope that once they bloom, they will attract a variety of insects. In addition to this we are eagerly awaiting the safe delivery of caterpillars to put in the butterfly garden.
We are reading “Holes” by Louis Sacher and everyone is enjoying the story which explores a number of themes related to other subjects including PHSE, History and Geography. Some pupils have already taken it upon themselves to watch the movie based on the novel, and are interested to see how the differences between the two forms of media.
The Class are also working well in Maths as we explore Geometry and measuring angles.
Good work Tamar!

CHITAH 16 APRIL 2021

16th April 2021realsmart admin

It has been a great week back in Chitah class!
Our topic this term is living things where we will be learning all about the life cycle and the many vast and wonderful creatures in this world.
To help us do this, we have introduced David Attenborough and his adventures discovering and learning all about animals on Planet Earth.
This topic will be cross-curricula this term, and will be used to support in our other lessons to help make the learning impactful, cohesive, and relevant.
We had a fantastic Thursday this week celebrating Israel’s birthday where we went on a virtual tour of Israel using VR goggles and augmented reality technology. We also cooked Israeli food, and went for our very first trip as a class when we went on a mile walk outside of the school to celebrate Israel’s Independence Day. Hopefully we will be able to do more excursions like this in the coming months as the covid restrictions begin to relax, as it was a great opportunity to practice a range of skills within a different context.
Well done Chitah class for a fantastic first full week back.

Welcome to the Summer Term!
It is so exciting that we are in our final term at The Hope Centre before our move to the new site in September…Rimon class are certainly ready for some more space to learn and play!
We have been busy learning all about minibeasts, which is our topic for this term. We have mapped out possible places where minibeasts might live in our local areas, and have named and identified the some of their more common microhabitats.
In Literacy, we have been exploring rhyming and different types of poetry. Some groups have worked on identifying rhyming pairs in “The Snail and the Whale”, while others have written their own acrostic poems on minibeasts. I am pleased to share that we have some very unique and creative poets in our midst.
In Maths, we are completing our modules on Fractions and Repeated Addition. Consolidation and repetition continues to be of high importance for our children in developing their academic skillsets, and it is really pleasing to see that they have all put in a lot of effort already this term.
Good work Rimon!

What a wonderful start back to the term we have had!
We have started exploring our new topic of farm animals. We have explored fun songs and have had some fantastic art lessons where wedecorated our favourite farm animals for our new classroom display. We have been looking at animals and the differences between younger animals and older animals, and what the correct names for them are.
In Maths we have started looking at money and different coins! Some of us have been exploring adding money together whilst others have been identifying lots of different coins. We have also started looking at problem solving with money by creating a shop and adding and subtracting different amounts.
In Literacy we have been learning how to find facts and how to research safely on the iPad. We have collected facts about our favourite farmyard animals and have made sure we use safe websites.
Finally, we have had some wonderful time in the forest on Friday afternoon; we explored in the sunshine and had fun looking at all of the wonderful flowers that grew over our two weeks off.
What a super start back to the term!
