2nd July 2021

2nd July 2021realsmart admin

As we count down to the end of the term, we look forward to an exciting few weeks ahead. These few weeks will include our first Gesher’s Got Talent on the 9th July, transition days with children spending the day with their ‘new class’ and teachers, as well as graduations!

It was lovely to see our current parents and some of the new ones at the new site on Thursday. It was great to have this opportunity to show the building, and we look forward to the rest of you seeing it very soon.

Please remember to RSVP for your child’s class graduation to their teacher (up to 2 family/carers may attend), as this will be a great chance for us to all be together and share such a memorable day.

TAMAR 02 JULY 2021

2nd July 2021realsmart admin

Tamar Class had another great week, with the highlight definitely being sports days. The class took part in all the staples of a good sports day, including the egg & spoon race and a relay. There was a lot of great effort put in by everyone and some definite excitement for the upcoming Olympics because of it.

Back in the classroom, our Science lesson this week got rather messy with an experiment which aimed to re-create the human digestive system using tights, bread, orange juice and banana. It is not something I recommend you trying at home!

This week also saw the class getting involved the preparations for the move to the new site, by painting personalised tiles which will be displayed in our new school building in September.

DVASH 02 JULY 2021

2nd July 2021realsmart admin

D’vash class have had another busy and exciting week! All of the children are working so hard and it has been lovely to reflect on the amazing progress they have made this term, as I prepare the end of year reports. I have been so impressed this week by the children’s caring actions towards each other, they have such a strong bond as a class.

This week we have been reviewing all of our favourite stories as a class, with the children having opportunities to read or retell their favourite story to the class.

In Maths we have been working on our addition skills and using all the number knowledge we have to solve addition problems.

We also had a brilliant Graduation event with parents on Friday morning, it was such a special time to celebrate together and lovely for the children to share their classroom and school with parents.

Have a great summer and I look forward to seeing you all at our new school site in September!

TAMAR 18 JUNE 2021

18th June 2021realsmart admin

Tamar enjoyed a really positive visit to the new school site and all the pupils are clearly looking forward to going there in September. Everyone was happy to see the abundance of space both in the school building and
the playground area.
Our topic across the curriculum this term is “Humans” and some very good work has been produced in several lessons. Last week we studied human anatomy learning about the function of numerous internal organs. Part of this topic links with RSE and the class have so far, shown maturity and the ability to talk openly about sensitive matters relating to the changes they are to expect as they grow older. I am very pleased with how all the class have engaged with this in their own way according to their own needs.
In Maths we have been recapping on previous work to consolidate learning around using measures and converting units from metric to imperial. In English we continue to work on comprehension using different kinds of text, fictional and non-fiction, developing our understanding of how different information is conveyed via different mediums. We shall also be looking at human rights and how charities such as UNICEF promote and help people sustain these rights across the globe. We have also welcomed Mr Sam back this week.

CHITAH 18 JUNE 2021

18th June 2021realsmart admin

We have had a fantastic first 2 weeks of Summer 2 term.
We are consolidating our theme of ‘Life Cycle’ by watching the life cycle of the butterfly right in front of our eyes. Last week, five caterpillars arrived that have now formed into chrysalis, we are eagerly awaiting for them to transform into butterflies.
In the past two weeks we have been looking at the life of Nelson Mandela in his long walk to freedom. The children have been really engaged and interested in learning all about his struggles, triumphs and the legacy that he has left behind. We have linked this to Human Rights and how it is so important to advocate for fairness and equality. Each child came up with an idea and advocated for a cause that they believe in. It was followed by a debate where we could all share our opinions in a safe and educational manner.
In Maths, we have been looking at ‘Time’, the children are becoming more confident in telling the time! So far, we have focused on O clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past.
Well done Chitah class for such an awesome start to the term!

RIMON 18 JUNE 2021

18th June 2021realsmart admin

In the last two weeks in Rimon class we have been looking at the features of comic books in literacy. We began by studying onomatopoeias and looking at the kinds of words in comic books.
In Maths we have been studying time, focusing specifically on half past and quarter past. We have also been studying money and improving our recognition of coins and their values.
In other very exciting news, we had an opportunity to go and have a look our new school last Thursday. We all loved it and are so excited for next year!

GEFEN 18 JUNE 2021

18th June 2021realsmart admin

We’ve had a wonderful two weeks in Gefen class by making the most of the sunshine and making sure we have been spending plenty of time outside. We have been practising for our sports day during our PE sessions on
Friday and are now professional long jumpers.
In Literacy we have been looking at our topic ‘Transport’ and have been creating fact files about buses and looking at different types of transport.
In Maths we have been exploring fractions and how we can find halves in shapes and numbers. We’re very excited to be visiting our new school site on Friday! I’ll be sending lots of pictures your way so you can feel a part of our first trip there.

DVASH 18 JUNE 2021

18th June 2021realsmart admin

D’vash class have had a brilliant week! We have been enjoying the sunny weather and talking a lot together about how to keep ourselves safe in the sun; wearing sunscreen, drinking water and keeping our hats on.
We have started our new topic ‘Transport’ and we have learnt the ‘We all go travelling by’ song. We had fun making all of the different transport sounds and each chose a transport picture to write about. In art we created our own cars, by painting toilet paper rolls and sticking them together.
D’vash class also had a very exciting trip in the Gesher school van to visit our new school. The children were all so happy to go out on a trip together and it was amazing to see how much they loved our new playgrounds and visiting all the new rooms. We are all looking forward to September!

TAMAR 28 MAY 2021

28th May 2021realsmart admin

As we approach the end of the term, Tamar have been reflecting on the work completed in class. All pupils have demonstrated an increased understanding of the life cycle processes of living things. Our planting project has been a mixed success with some of our plants thriving whilst others have not survived the terrible recent weather!
Luckily our butterflies fared better and were released into the garden last week. There has been real progress in Maths and all pupils have consolidated their learning about measuring angles, area and translation of shapes. We are continuing with our book “Holes” which explores many different themes including racial prejudice and how we resolve conflict as individuals and as a society. These are also themes we have explored in our circle time sessions with Miss Danielle and the class have discussed how we define friendship and what to expect from our friends.
We have looked at examples of times in school when it has been hard to get along with each other and what action we could take to make better choices. Due to the poor weather this term we have been unable to do P.E outside much. Nevertheless, this presented the opportunity to have some friendly games of indoor table tennis and include our friends in Chitah class. It’s been amazing to see the progress pupils are making through hard work and perseverance.
The class are all learning the valuable lesson that it’s ok to make mistakes as long as we try to learn from them and always try our best.
Have a great half term.

CHITAH 28 MAY 2021

28th May 2021realsmart admin

In Maths, some of the children have continued working on the different rules for addition and subtraction. At the same time, others have been focusing on their number sequences and matching numbers with their qualities using concrete objects.
In Literacy, the children have focused on living things themed ‘Code Breaking’ by creating visuals for their codes and writing secret words or sentences for the adults in the class to ‘crack’. In addition, part of the class has been looking at the book ‘Mrs Wishy Washy’s farm’ and looking at farm-animal themed lessons. We have had fantastic Science lessons looking at Life Cycles. We have focused on the frog, ladybird, butterfly life cycles, and the children’s choices of the spider and the owl. We are so excited for the live caterpillars to arrive next half term so that we can see the butterfly’s life cycle right in action. I am so proud of all the children for their hard work and perseverance this half term! Well done!!
Have a great half-term break!!
